Sunstate Supports Women In Construction Week 2024

Meet 5 Sunstate women who are thriving in their construction careers.

Today, 1.3 million women (about the population of New Hampshire) are working in the construction industry — up 50 percent from a decade ago. Women builders, tradespeople, construction managers, architects, engineers, and salespeople are paving the way for more women entering the field annually.

Many of these women are members of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), a supportive network for women working in a male-dominated field. With 120 chapters located across the U.S., NAWIC provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service, and more.

Sunstate currently has several women employees actively involved in NAWIC chapters and events across the country. During the week of March 3, NAWIC celebrates its 26th Annual Women in Construction Week (WIC). This year's theme, 'Keys to the Future', celebrates the strength and knowledge of women and the vital role they play in shaping the future of the construction industry.

At Sunstate, there’s no shortage of amazing women who contribute to our company’s success every day. In fact, we’d like to spotlight five women who are standing out in their region and acknowledge their hard work in the industry. We hope you find them as inspiring as we do.

Tricia H.

Outside Sales

Beginning her career at Sunstate as an Inside Sales Rep, Tricia quickly mastered her equipment inventory knowledge and learned what customers truly value in a rental provider. She set her sights on an Outside Sales Rep (OSR) role and continued learning from the Sales team. She eventually landed the role and has been “in it to win it” ever since. Recently, she was selected to mentor the newest OSR rep at her branch. By sharing her knowledge, she’s helping her branch succeed even more. Tricia’s a shining example of how self-investment and a positive attitude create opportunity.

“What I love most about working in the construction industry is the sense of community and the knowledge attainable by constant networking. When I meet other women in the industry, I encourage them to network and get involved in the events and associations that the community offers. The industry needs more hard-working women to show our strength and knowledge in construction.” - Tricia H.

Kristin D.

Operations Manager

Kristin quickly learned how to succeed in her role as an Operations Manager. Despite her background in a different industry, she never allowed a lack of construction experience to be an obstacle. She used every opportunity to learn and grow her knowledge. Her managers say she dives in fearlessly and is ready to tackle any challenge that comes her way. She has a positive attitude and easily connects with customers and coworkers. In short, she’s a stellar reflection of our Core Values.

“I recently joined my local area’s NAWIC chapter, and I am excited to join them in supporting other women striving to grow in this male-dominated field. Women bring unique experiences, talents, and viewpoints to the industry, and I think that it's important and valuable for us to talk about our successes AND our challenges with one another while encouraging others to join us at the table.” - Kristin D.
