Women Powering Up Careers in Construction

Highlighting the Women That Make Our Company Great

Sunstate Equipment is known for our top-quality construction equipment and our top-notch team of highly skilled rental experts who make us the industry’s premier rental partner. In honor of Women in Construction Week, we are pleased and honored to highlight just a few of the many talented women who’ve invested their time, talent, and experience – and careers – to elevating the construction rental industry.

As of 2022, women still only make up 11% of the traditionally male-dominated industry. We applaud the courage and commitment of those who’ve helped pave the way for other women to enter a field that is both challenging and rewarding.

To further support the future generations of women considering a career in construction, we are pleased to partner with the National Association of Women in Construction as a sponsor of the 25th Annual Women in Construction Week, and with a $5,000 grant to the NAWIC Fort Worth Chapter 1 Foundation from our employee-led Sunstate Equipment Foundation.

Please join us in celebrating a few of the incredible women in construction from the Sunstate family:

Hannah G.

Trench Operations Manager, Portland, OR

Hannah began in Accounting before assisting with Inside Sales where she realized she loved working hands-on with our customers. She enjoys being a part of so many different projects that help improve the infrastructure of our communities. She finds reward in helping others find solutions to make their jobs safer and easier. To women starting out: “Just go for it! There are so many different opportunities in the construction industry and so many people willing to help and answer questions, so don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.”

Hope G.

Industrial Branch Manager, Beaumont, TX

Hope was drawn to construction from an early age. Her dad owned a concrete construction company when she was a young child, and she started in a tool trailer inside a refinery. She’s been hooked ever since. A favorite part of her career is the constant challenge – it keeps things exciting. As products and technology constantly change, so does the job. “DON’T give up and never doubt your ability. There are many of us who have helped pave the way for you. Stay the course and be a success.”

Luanne O.

Equipment Support Lead, Marietta, GA

Luanne grew up alongside men in the construction industry. The love and drive for seeing the beginning and end of projects has always been with her. While working at her last construction project, she would see the pride and dedication the hard-working drivers always had when loading and unloading their equipment. It was then that she decided to move to the rental industry. “As women, we have the power and strength to move mountains. Our voices may be soft, but our actions speak for themselves.”

Mandy D.

Dispatcher, Memphis, TN

After 10 years in the restaurant industry, Mandy decided she wanted more for herself and her son. Three years ago, she saw a job position at Sunstate for Inside Sales, and the rest is history! She’s had the opportunity to travel to other markets, training new Inside Sales Reps, and she’s since been promoted to Dispatcher. Mandy has enjoyed expanding her knowledge on fleet and all levels of construction, “I have learned so much in the short years I’ve been with Sunstate and am loving the new challenge. My advice is to get out of your comfort zone and just go for it. You never know what you could be good at without trying!”

Tasha S.

Trench - Branch Manager, Conley, GA

Tasha got her start as an Inside Sales representative with Sunstate just two years ago, and the role gave her the foundation of equipment knowledge, relationship building, and leadership skills to totally take charge of her current role as Branch Manager. She feels pride driving through Georgia and witnessing her part in its growing economy. “I feel like a superwoman knowing that I can help improve businesses, homes, and communities overall.” A word for women? “Ignore the stereotypes! The more women in construction the more others will be empowered to join hands to make a difference in diversifying the construction industry.”
